One of my favorite comedians is Bob Hope. (No surprise that it's someone from years past, right?) I'm yet to see a movie he made without bursting out laughing at some point. And this is probably one of my favorite Bob Hope films: The Ghost Breakers.
He plays a radio broadcaster that gets tangled up with the mob, and, in an attempt to get away, meets the young heiress (played by Paulette Goddard) of a haunted mansion in Cuba. When he learns of the threats and attempts on her life, he and his butler (played by Willie Best) come to her aid in solving the mystery of her ancestral home.
Like any Bob Hope film, it's filled with one liners and quick witted sarcasm (which I love), but it also has a bit of mystery, horror, and romance in the mix. Paulette Goddard is gorgeous as the female lead, and Willie Best is hilarious as the second man.
A haunted house with a mysterious secret, fast-paced vintage humor, and a giant zombie...what more could you want in a film?!
